Peyton Pinkerton is a musician most associated with playing guitar, keyboards and drums for various artists including Silver Jews (David Berman), Pernice Brothers (Joe Pernice) and his own seminal indie-rock band of 20 years, New Radiant Storm King (NRSK).
In addition to playing live and recording for these projects, he has worked as an arranger, recording engineer, producer and co-writer with other artists.
Peyton was born and raised in Pleasantville, New York. He attended five high schools in four years before going to Hampshire College in 1989 to study philosophy. He eventually decided to focus on painting and music and, although he was able to fake it for a spell, he was eventually forced out of the music program for his lack of ability to sight read. He co-founded NRSK during his first year at Hampshire. NRSK went on to be an important band in the early 90s alternative music scene with peers such as Pavement, Sebadoh, Polvo, Built To Spill and Guided By Voices.
For twenty years, Peyton extensively toured the world, sometimes playing to crowds as large as 16,000 people on the European festival circuit as well as playing to a mere six people in tiny clubs stateside—and everywhere in between. In recent days, he has also been involved in soundtrack work and teaching music to special needs children.
Peyton lives in Holyoke, Massachusetts, where he records in his attic studio.
